The purpose of the Mt. Pleasant Area Historical Society is to bring together those people interested in the history and heritage of the City of Mt. Pleasant and its surrounding area.
The major function of the Society will be to discover and collect any material which may help to record or illustrate the history of the region, i.e. its progress in population, wealth, education, arts, science, agriculture, manufacturing, trade, or transportation. To accomplish its stated purpose, the Society may do any or all of the following:
A. Collect printed material, manuscript material and material objects illustrative of life, conditions, events and activities of the past and present;
B. Provide for the preservation of such materials and for the accessibility of same, to such extent as may be feasible, to all who wish to examine or study such materials;
C. Secure the preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and markers;
D. Disseminate historical information and arouse public interest in the past by publishing historical material in the newspapers or otherwise by holding meetings, pageants, lectures, and discussions; by marking historic buildings, sites, and trails; and by using facilities of the media to awaken public interest;
E. Cooperate with the Historical Society of Michigan and other local historical groups to collect and preserve materials of historical significance.
